A commitment to quality customer service has netted Ocean Grove Hardware yet more accolades this year. The store picked up two gongs at the Hardware Association of Victoria Industry Awards last week, winning 2011 Store of the Year. Assistant manager Leanne Hensel was also named Victorian Hardware Employee of the Year. Owner Paul Drake said he was honoured to be recognised and praised Ms Hansel's efforts. "Our success last week was absolutely fantastic, it's quite an achievement ... since we won it last year too," he said. "We've won it four times in the past 11 years, but this is the first time we've won it since I've owned the business."
Ms Hansel has been in the hardware industry for three decades and did not expect to win her award. She described the industry as "addictive" and said she loved every minute of her job.
"I was very excited because I didn't expect to win, even though Paul nominated me" she said. "I couldn't have done it without the support of Paul, his family and the Ocean Grove Hardware staff."
The awards take entries from all Victorian hardware stores. Mr Drake said Ocean Grove Hardware's variety of stock and standard of service, placed the store above its competitors.
"We like to do things a bit differently here and have a few unique promotions like the Ocean Grove Frenzy, which supported the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club" he said.
"The judges were impressed with that, because it shows that the store works by giving back to the community. I believe it's good to maintain a relationship with the local community groups."
